Many people love to travel but don't want to travel alone. They may have health issues, they may need a companion and yes it is a paid position. The traveler pays for my travel accommodations and for time.

A companion helps with everything. from luggage, to dealing with passports, to just being there, to health issues, even to accompaniment to a cemetery (finding relatives), etc.. It allows the traveler to feel they can enjoy the trip and see the sites and just relax.
